801 Alma Family Housing
Partners
The Community Working Group is a Palo Alto-based nonprofit organization that is focused on providing affordable homes and supportive services for lower-income individuals and families in the mid-peninsula area. With more than a decade of service to Palo Alto, the Community Working Group was the developer of the Opportunity Center, the award-winning housing and homeless services center that opened in 2006.
Eden Housing is a regional affordable housing developer that has built more than 5,500 affordable housing units in the 42 years since it was founded. Eden Housing stands out as one of the most productive and successful nonprofit affordable housing developers in California and was recently recognized by Affordable Housing Finance Magazine as one of the Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers in the United States.
Eden Housing is a fully integrated nonprofit development corporation with two subsidiary companies that provide property management and resident services. One of Eden's most recent projects in the mid-peninsula area is Nugent Square – a 32-unit family apartment complex at 2361 University Avenue in East Palo Alto.
Eden Housing and the Community Working Group will serve as the developers for 801 Alma, and they have agreed to own and operate this property as affordable housing for at least 55 years.
After construction is complete, Eden Housing Management will provide ongoing management of the facility, and Eden Housing Resident Services will provide a range of services to the residents of 801 Alma.
Community Support
801 Alma enjoys the strong support of local government. The City of Palo Alto has a long history of supporting affordable homes in the community. The city has provided funding for a number of low-income properties over the years, and Palo Alto was one of the first California communities to have a "below market rate" housing program.
The City of Palo Alto is providing a portion of the land and significant additional funding for 801 Alma. The development has been approved by both the City Council and the Architectural Review Board.
